Global salmon farmer Mowi is hoping to move forward with its plan for expanding its North Harvest hatchery operations in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL).

Earlier this month the company submitted a 569-page "environmental preview report," which was requested by the NL government in 2021 in response to Mowi's proposed expansion of its smolt hatchery in the province.

To date, the company said it has invested CAD 86 million ($64 million/€58 million) in the expansion. The company said it has "either partially or fully constructed" additional fish production units, improved vaccination and grading systems and added a new effluent treatment building and new freshwater wells while waiting on full approval from the province.
