Despite high hopes at the start of the year, by year end Norway's 2018 farmed salmon production was 60,000 metric tons lower than predicted.

Final figures for the year were 1,255,000 metric tons, up 5 percent over 2017, but below company estimations, reports Kontali Analyze in its latest monthly report.

The coldest winter in many years, which affected both growth and mortality and reduced growth and harvesting weights in late summer and autumn and sea lice challenges both contributed to the lower-than-forecast harvest volumes, according to Kontali.
