Land-based salmon farmer Salmon Evolution has begun the first phase of construction at its facility in Hustadvik, Norway.

After the first stage is complete, the site will have a capacity of 9,000 metric tons per year, which could go up to 36,000 metric tons once the project is completed.

"Starting construction is an important milestone for us, and a clear signal that land-based aquaculture will be an important supplement to conventional fish farms," Salmon Evolution Acting CEO Hakon Berg said.
