A 50-year-old man died after falling off a boat in Sortland, Norway, owned by wellboat company Rostein, the police announced July 31.

"There has been a tragic incident in connection with boarding of one of our vessels. The police are investigating the case and we have no opportunity to comment further now," Rostein Deputy CEO Glen Bradley told IntraFish.

The man fell from the boat at 03:47 a.m. local time. People with him immediately began to administer first aid, but the man was declared deceased on the spot.

The police state that investigations, including interrogation and review of video surveillance, show the the incident was a "tragic accident" and they will not be taking further investigative steps.

The remaining crew will now be taken care of by the municipality's crisis team, Nordland police district announced in a statement on Friday.
