Lawyers acting for NGO Ecojustice have filed a lawsuit aimed at ensuring Mowi’s Indian Head Hatchery expansion in Canada's eastern Newfoundland and Labrador province does not go ahead without further environmental scrutiny.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of grassroots groups and individuals concerned about the health of wild Atlantic salmon stocks.

Critics of the expansion say the Stephenville facility poses a threat to the last of Canada’s healthy wild Atlantic salmon populations, and could further stress wild salmon populations already in decline.
