Latvian firm nabs EU funding for commercial RAS shrimp farm

Latvian company Mere Shrimp Farms will start construction of a €2.5 million ($2.7 million) - €2.7 million ($2.9 million) land-based vannamei shrimp farm in Dobele, CEO and Co-Founder Gints Dzelme told IntraFish.

The plant will produce 20-30 metric tons of vannamei shrimp at a first stage, which will later be ramped up to 100 metric tons annual production at a second stage.

Mere Shrimp Farms plans to put the first larvae into the water in late July or early August next year, and harvesting is slated to start in early 2018, Dzelme said.
