Billund Aquaculture has begun construction of a land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) post-smolt facility for Salmones Austral in Chile's southern Los Lagos region.
The site, with an initial annual production capacity of 6 million post-smolt salmon, will use both fresh and sea water and is projected to start operations in the second quarter of 2021.
Salmones Austral has set an end goal of producing salmon up to 500 grams using the system.
