Land-based salmon newcomer Columbi Salmon is researching technology and processes for carbon-neutral salmon farming in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in partnership with the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), Morefish and feed manufacturer BioMar.
The three-month research project will take place at NIBIO's facility in Grimstad, Norway, which will be stocked with 1,000 fish.
The facility captures carbon dioxide from the air and utilizes the nutrients in water from fish waste in order to make use of all resources and reduce emissions, said Siv Lene Gangenes Skar, researcher and project lead at NIBIO.
