With novel coronavirus cases growing rapidly in North America, another US-based seafood meeting has been postponed.

On Friday the Freshwater Institute told participants in an email the organization will postpone an upcoming aquaculture innovation workshop set for April in New York City due to mounting meeting and travel restrictions in the United States.

"Given the current global health concerns around coronavirus (COVID19) and new restrictions being implemented in the US and abroad related to gatherings and recommendations related to social distancing, we feel we must take this step to assure the public’s health and safety," said Brian Vinci, director of the Freshwater Institute.

Vinci said due to the uncertainty ahead, the institute does not plan yet to announce a new date for the workshop.

"As soon as we have details for new dates will be in contact with you," he said.
