Today the world’s salmon farmers produce 2.5 million metric tons of salmon annually, making it a a staple for healthy and affordable diets around the world.
That's according to a new report from the International Salmon Farmer's Association (ISFA), which said globally salmon farmers have contributed to 17.5 billion meals every year, nearly 133,000 jobs and contribute $15.4 billion (€13.2 billion) annually in global production.
The report stated more than half of all seafood worldwide originates from an aquaculture source, and that by 2030, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization forecasts a seafood shortage, which aquaculture can help fill.
