The aquaculture industry in Greece is being touted as one of the basic pillars for rebuilding the national economy as it starts to emerge from crisis, because it represents one of the country’s most important productive sectors.

The first congress of its kind on Hellenic aquaculture took place in Athens on June 22-23 and the importance of the event was borne out by the crowd it managed to pull together at short notice.

Organizers managed to bring together around 250 participants, which included representatives of the aquaculture industry, academics, high-ranking Greek government officials, as well as European Commission and European Parliament dignitaries.
