The Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture has detected Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis virus (IPNv) at a marine cage site belonging to Newfoundland-based Nova Fish Farms.

The farm site, located in Newfoundland's Bay d’Espoir, contains five cages stocked with approximately 147,243 steelhead trout, weighing 550 grams.

One out of five cages is impacted, which contains approximately 24,000 steelhead trout. IPNv, which does not affect humans, is endemic in Atlantic Canada and is not known to cause clinical signs of disease.
