Barramundi Asia has been farming in Singapore and Australia for several years, but plans for a 36,000-metric-ton capacity offshore farm in Brunei, Borneo, will blow its current production out of the water.

"The idea is to make barramundi the new white salmon... the salmon of the tropics," Co-Founder and Managing Director Joep Kleine Staarman told IntraFish.

With licences signed approved, ex-Marine Harvest Asia MD Staarman and his team plan for capacity of 36,000 metric tons at a site 14 kilometers off the Brunei coast.
