Beginning in October, a levy on fishmeal under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be reimposed in India, a move which was strongly opposed by the local industry, reported The Economic Times.

Around 70 fishmeal processors have opposed the decision.

An exemption from July 2017 to September 2019 was granted due to a previous month-long strike, which led to a crash in prices.

Prices may increase by up to 4 percent in the short term under GST, as the industry is already working with very low margins, said Growell Processors Executive Director PS Narendra.
