Tasmanian salmon company Huon Aquaculture has dropped out of the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), citing concerns GSI is more focused on issues affecting its Northern Hemisphere members.

Although Huon does not appear as a member to the GSI on the group’s website and has not reported its sustainability standards in the GSI’s sixth annual report released last week, both Huon and the GSI say the group is only re-assessing its membership.

“Huon Aquaculture hasn’t withdrawn but they placed their membership on hold for a year because they decided due to resourcing measures to focus on some regional issues right now,” GSI CEO Sophie Ryan told IntraFish.
