From a background predominantly in salmon and trout -- from an aquaculture perspective at least -- Hendrix Genetics entered shrimp in 2017 through its partnership with Kona Bay, but now it is taking the next steps through a new joint venture in Ecuador that will expose it even more to the farmed shellfish.

Last week, Hendrix announced it was teaming up with Nutreco and Ecuadoran shrimp producer Ecuacultivos to invest in a shrimp hatchery in the country. The hatchery will supply Pacific whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) post-larvae to Ecuadorian farmers.
