The Global Salmon Initiative (GSI) announced sea lice treatments fof its 14 member companies have been cut in half over the last six years, while the use of non-medicinal treatments surged 120 percent.

Farmed fish, particularly salmon, still is the most resource-efficient animal protein, with lowest carbon footprint, lowest feed conversion ratios and lowest land use, according to the GSI sustainability data annual report.

The GSI report analyzed environmental and social indicators of its members’ production, such as fish escapes, fish mortality, sea lice count, sea lice treatments, use of marine ingredients in feed, compliance, direct labor and R&D investment.
