Today's surprise announcement that Grieg Seafood is to become the first of the large-scale 'traditional' net-pen farmers to enter the land-based salmon farming arena is a natural progression for the company, whose post-smolt strategy gives it a foot-up in terms of capability, CEO Andreas Kvame told IntraFish.
"We have been very focused on having licences for post-smolt production... Now there is surplus capacity, so we want to test out growing the fish to full size on land."
