Joining forces with other animal feed industries may give the aquaculture sector more leverage in its efforts to persuade non-marine ingredients producers to adopt certifiably sustainable sourcing polices.

That's the view of Dan Lee, coordinator for the Global Aquaculture Alliance's (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Standards.

GAA expects to publish a new BAP feed mill standard, which will include plant crop ingredients, in the next six months. Its existing standard will be used as a starting point.

This comes as The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) said it is aiming to approve its first standard for plant ingredients used to produce aquaculture feed products.
