The Canadian government's upcoming workshops to craft a plan for transitioning British Columbia away from netpen salmon farming do not provide enough time for effective consultations, some First Nations involved in discussions with Canada's fisheries minister say.

Last month, Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) released a "framework for discussion" that mapped out a series of workshops and meetings with industry, First Nations, local governments and conservation groups. In its announcement, the government said it planned to draft a transition plan by March to June of 2023.
