Greek seabass and seabream producer Nireus suffered significant damage from a fire in its Kardamyla, Chios, hatchery, Chios reported.

The fire was reportedly caused by a lamp that fell into an empty tank with flammable materials, causing damage to the building facilities.

No one was injured and the company is working to ensure its 30 employees continue operating.

The Chios Fire Department controlled the situation within 90 minutes, said the newspaper.

Mediterranean seabass and seabream producer Andromeda acquired majority stakes in Nireus and Selonda last October, following the European Commission's greenlight.
