FDA OK's single-cell protein ingredient for salmon diets

Massachusetts-based biotechnology company KnipBio obtained Gernerally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) recognition from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its finfish feed ingredient, an important step toward the commercialization of the product.

The KnipBio Meal range is a lab-grown variety of high protein single-cell ingredients developed as a component of aquaculture feed products.

The approval of the salmonid feed solution is an important step that will grant the company access to a number of key markets, and comes at a great time for development in the US aquaculture sector, Larry Feinberg, CEO of KnipBio, told IntraFish.
