Netherlands-based De Heus animal nutrition opened a new aquaculture feed mill in Myanmar, its third feed plant in the country, but the first dedicated to aquaculture.

The new facility will allow De Heus to produce more than 200,000 metric tons of aqua feed each year and is situated in Myaung close to Yangon and in the center of the country's aquaculture industry.

“The production of animal protein in Myanmar is developing rapidly," said De Heus Myanmar Managing Director Arno Willemink.

"Ultimately the goal is to provide our customers with high-quality feed products, advice and support that enable them to further professionalize their farms and find new markets for their products.”

Royal De Heus CEO Koen de Heus said another goal of the company's operations is to help its clients balance growth with reducing impact on local environments.

"The usage of floating feeds, for instance, lowers water pollution which in turn supports the health of the fish and accelerate growth leading to better proceeds for local farmers," he said.
