A new report by Chile’s National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) shows salmon mortalities caused by infectious diseases in Chile fell 14.3 percent in 2018 compared with the year prior.

Only two cases of infectious salmon anemia (ISA) were reported in Aysen, both of which were managed and controlled thanks to early detection systems, said Sernapesca.

Cases of piscirickettsiosis saw a decrease of 34.5 percent in sites categorized as "High Dissemination Centers," which led to a reduction of 24 percent in the antibiotic consumption index over the year compared with the year prior.

Sea lice cases continued at the level of the year prior, and were up slightly in the first half of 2018, Sernapesca said.
