Nova Scotia-based Cooke Aquaculture subsidiary Kelly Cove Salmon has no plans to put its expansion in the province on hold, the company said Thursday.

The news followed shortly after Mitsubishi-owned salmon farming giant Cermaq announced it will be letting all lease options awarded by the Province of Nova Scotia expire.

The expansion faced early opposition from local communities.

Kelly Cove Salmon has applied for two new 20-cage sea sites and the expansion of an existing site from 14-20 cages in Liverpool Bay.
