Kelly Cove Salmon, a subsidiary of Cooke Aquaculture Inc., is in the early planning stages to build a CAD 30 million (€20.1 million/$22.9 million) recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) post-smolt facility in Bayside, New Brunswick, reports the St Croix Courier.

Employing advanced recirculating aquaculture technology, Joel Richardson, VP public relations at Cooke, said he believed it will be "the first facility to use this technology in Canada."

The purpose of the facility is to grow salmon larger on land -- to around 300 grams, versus the usual 120 grams -- prior to their transfer to salt water farming pens.
