A fire has damaged a seabass and seabream hatchery operated by Cooke Aquaculture division Grupo Culmarex near Palma on the Spanish island of Mallorca.
The blaze started overnight in the early hours of Thursday morning at Aquicultura Balear's hatchery, which supplies nine fish production sites throughout Spain.
None of the company's employees were hurt but a local fireman was reported by local media to have injured his leg in tackling the fire, Cooke aquaculture spokesperson Joel Richardson told IntraFish.
"The local fire brigade was very swift and and managed to get the fire under control quite well," Richardson said.
Cooke has so far not commented on the potential cost of the fire, but the incident could cost the company millions of euros, Diario de Mallarco reported.
Hatchery operators are cooperating fully with fire investigators, the company said.
