The Second Civil Court of Osorno, in the Los Lagos region, sentenced salmon farming company Pacific Star to pay two separate fines for disposing hazardous waste in the Rupanco lake, reports BioBio Chile.

The sentence comes after a series of audits last year examining the lake bed.

Following the audits, the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) opened two cases against the company, which is now facing two fines worth 1,700 monthly tax units (approximately CLP 74 million/ €93,799/$105,958) each.
