Almost 1 million fish have died at an Invermar farm in Quello, Los Lagos, Chile, according to Chile’s National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca).

The 937,257 coho salmon were around 780 grams each.

The Sernapesca report mentions the presence of microalgae Cochlodinium at the site and it is not the first time algal blooms have caused mass mortalities for salmon producers, but as yet there is no confirmation of this as the cause of death.
