The Chilean salmon industry has come out strongly against Nova Austral after the company was handed a CLP 900 million ($940,350/€923,050) fine for overproduction and causing environmental damage to the seabed.
Last week, the company had three of its farming licenses revoked in the Magallanes region of the South American nation after being found guilty of overproducing at the Cockburn 14, Cockburn 23 and Aracena 10 production sites.
The company's operations damaged the seabed at the Aracena 10 site in the Alberto de Agostini de Magallanes National Park, Chile's Environmental Superintendancy (SMA) reported.
