Regular supervision of Chilean salmon processing plants will be stepped up using online checks beginning next week, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) said.

The move follows the discovery on Friday of COVID-19 on the chopping board of a seller of imported salmon at Beijing's main wholesale seafood market.

"Starting next week, online verification will be included, through electronic means, to reinforce the regular supervision of the process plants, and thus guarantee control of compliance with all protocols and measures of biosecurity, as well as the review of daily records and respective means of verification," the agency said.
