Cermaq Canada says recent approval from Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to amend its netpen salmon farm sites in British Columbia's Clayoquot Sound have been taken out of context by opponents who claim the approvals run counter to the government's plans to move away from netpen salmon farming in the next few years.

"Fish that may have been grown in six farms across two regions will now be grown in just four farms in the north region. Therefore, each farm will require an increase in licensed biomass to hold and grow those same number of fish to market size," Cermaq told IntraFish.
