Three months after joining Cermaq Chile as managing director, Steven Rafferty recognizes that the company-- the second largest player in the Chilean industry after AquaChile -- needs to change its approach if it is going to reach its full potential.

“Cermaq has not leveraged, as much as it should have, the fact that it is part of an international group,” Rafferty told IntraFish. “There is a lot of rethinking to do, and that is part of my task here.”

The Mitsubishi-owned company, which produces over 100,000 metric tons of salmon in Chile – its biggest division – needs to bring on technologies used in other regions, and look at investment in a more proactive way.
