With aquaculture production growth progressing at a glacial pace, Ireland is looking towards satellite industries such as finance, technology and pharmaceuticals to boost the sector, the country’s seafood development agency, Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), told IntraFish.

Despite a long tradition of farming seafood dating back to the early 1900s, Ireland has always had niche production in terms of aquaculture, with a focus on organic production in particular.
