Infectious salmon anemia (ISA)

ISA is a viral disease among Atlantic salmon caused by Salmon isavirus. Different strains affect fish farms in Norway, Scotland, Chile and Canada. ISA virus causes severe anemia in infected fish.

Salmon develop pale gills and may swim close to the water surface, gulping for air without showing signs of illness before dying suddenly. In worst cases death rates approach 100 percent on an infected farms.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority suspected infection salmon anemia (ISA) in the salmon farming site 11908 Oltesvik belonging to Cargill-owned Ewos Innovation, according to an announcement on July 17.
