US agri-giant Cargill opened its $10.5 million (€9.1 million) innovation center in Colaco, Chile, in a ceremony Tuesday.

National Director of the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) Jose Miguel Burgos, subdirector Alicia Gallardo, and SalmonChile President Felipe Sandoval were joined by industry and government officials for what the company is highlighting as a milestone for the sector.

“It is a big day. What we are achieving today is the result of a project that has been on the papers for more than six years, and is important not only for us as a company, but for the industry itself,” Einar Wathne, president of Cargill Aqua Nutrition, told IntraFish.
