Gold River Aquafarms (GRA), the developer of a land-based steelhead fish farm in Gold River, British Columbia, has received an aquaculture permit from Fisheries & Oceans Canada, giving it the go-ahead for a CAD 100 million (€69.5 million/$73.5 million) project on Vancouver Island.

The planning for the project began three years ago, with a lot of engineering and survey work already done and the application for regulatory approval filed in February last year.

When completed, the 3,000 metric ton steelhead farm will be the largest land-based facility in Canada with the potential to expand to 15,000 metric tons on adjacent property.
