Canadian land-based salmon farming company Sustainable Blue is looking to expand its farming operations in Centre Burlington, Nova Scotia, to 500 metric tons annually, CEO Kirk Havercroft told IntraFish.

The company, which started harvesting its first fish in the fall of 2015, currently has a capacity of 150 metric tons. By September or October, the company will sell around 5,000 kilos of salmon per week.

Havercroft agreed that farms need “at least” 1,000 metric tons to be competitive and financially viable.
