The Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture has chosen Grieg Seafood Newfoundland to ramp up production in the province's southern shores, where it has stated there is an opportunity to create a salmon farm that could produce 15,000 to 20,000 metric tons of salmon annually.

Canada Minister of Fisheries, Forest and Agriculture Derrick Bragg announced Tuesday Grieg Seafood Newfoundland was "the successful proponent" of the provincial government’s recent expression of interest process for potential aquaculture development on the province’s southwest coast.
