The aquaculture industry in Canada and anti-aquaculture activists in Maine are both watching closely as Washington state's Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz moves forward with her executive order to ban all netpen finfish farming in Washington state-owned waters.

"I do not believe we will be affected by the decision at all," Isaiah Robinson, general manager of Kitasoo Development Corporation and a Kitasoo Band Councilor, told IntraFish.

Canada's Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation is based in the remote British Columbia community of Klemtu, where the First Nation holds six of the 79 salmon farming licenses that were temporarily renewed this year.
