Atlantic salmon farmed in British Columbia has been relegated to the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch "Avoid" list, meaning buyers using the program to guide their seafood purchases should no longer buy the product.
Prior to Monday's updated ratings, BC's salmon was ranked a "Good Alternative", but chemical use and disease ratings no longer deem it as such, according to the NGO.
On average, from 2018-2020, half the farms in BC didn’t use any antimicrobials, but the other half used them multiple times a year, said Seafood Watch.
