Brazilian meat processing behemoth JBS is reportedly eyeing a potential acquisition of Australian salmon farmer Huon Aquaculture, according to reports in the Australian media.

Citing industry insiders, local media outlets The Australian and The Mercury, are reporting that the global meat processor, which acquired Australian pork producer Riverlea last month, may be close to snapping up the salmon producer.

IntraFish reported in February that Tasmania-based Huon was considering approaches from suitors as its profit levels plunged due to COVID-19.

"In light of recent unsolicited approaches, the board has initiated a strategic review to assess potential corporate level transactions for the benefit of shareholders," Huon announced to the Australian Stock Exchange at the time.
