Tilapia breeding and genetics group GenoMar Genetics plans to officially open its new tilapia breeding center in the central Brazilian state of Tocantins in the first quarter of 2022, as executives draw up investment plans to cope with burgeoning demand for fingerlings.

The company, part of the EW Group, has already begun filling ponds with water and fish at the site, which it is building for an undisclosed sum.

The site, providing work for 35 people, will help develop the company's genetic brands under a selective breeding program aimed at improving the production performance and quality of farmed tilapia.
