Brazilian fresh tilapia fillet exports to the United States surged 94 percent in the opening four months of 2020 as producers benefited from stronger demand and a 25 percent tariff on Chinese produced tilapia.

This comes despite a massive increase in airfreight charges to the United States from Brazil, amid the coronavirus health crisis.

"Even at higher rates, we continue to have competitive prices due to the value of the dollar," Francisco Medeiros, CEO of aquaculture producers trade body Peixe BR told IntraFish, adding that this is despite the cost of freight, which has almost doubled in the wake of the pandemic.
