Brazilian shrimp production is forecast to climb 17 percent in 2019, according to former industry trade body ABCC president Itamar Rocha.

The increase would bring production up to 90,000 metric tons compared with 77,000 metric tons in 2018, said Rocha, who now works on a consultancy basis, told IntraFish.

Should producers realise the forecast it would bring production back up to a level last seen in the early 2000's.

A raft of new producers moving into the business and the expansion of existing farms are forecast helped raise production from 65,000 metric tons in 2017.
