By 2020 the Canadian government will have the appropriate enforcement tools to respond quickly if sea lice enforcement plans are not followed or are not successful.

While not giving specifics on its sea lice enforcement, Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) said this month that British Columbia salmon farms will be managed using an area-based approach to aquaculture management it introduced in December of last year.

"These changes will be in place in early 2020, in advance of the next juvenile salmon smolt out-migration in British Columbia, when wild juvenile salmon are at greatest risk from sea lice," Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) said June.
