On Thursday, the British Columbia government included salmon farming and aquaculture in its list of "essential services," as part of an overarching emergency plan to address the growing coronanvirus pandemic. Canada's Atlantic provinces have also defined aquaculture as “essential” work.

The BC designation allows companies such as Mowi Canada West, Grieg, Cermaq and Creative Salmon to operate salmon farms and plants in the province during ongoing stay-home measures.
