Faroese salmon producer Bakkafrost harvested 28,200 metric tons in the second quarter of 2021, a 35 percent jump on the same period a year ago.

In a trading update, the company – which acquired the Scottish Salmon Company at the end of 2019 -- saw volumes from its operations in the Faroe Islands climb 36 percent, and in Scotland volumes were up 34 percent in the second quarter of 2021.

In the Faroe Islands alone, Bakkafrost harvested 17,600 metric tons compared with 12,900 a year earlier: 2,500 metric tons from the north, 13,200 metric tons from the west and 1,900 metric tons from the south.
