Australian Barramundi firm MainStream Aquaculture said it has bought a 1,100-acre fish farm in Arizona, as part of plans to produce fish for the US market.

The company already operates a pilot scale barramundi farm in Arizona, where it has now taken up an option to buy the site.

"The Arizona farm is MainStream’s first international acquisition and a major step forward in its core long-term objective to globalize its sustainable seafood business model," the company said.
