Auburn University professors saw a need for an aquaculture certification program-- so they made one themselves, and the Certification for Aquaculture Professions (CAP) launched this past June.
"(The program) allows people to excel in their jobs," CAP Director Antonio Garza de Yta said.
The program allows aquaculture professionals around the world to take courses and exams online. There are 10 areas, or "modules" of learning, including water quality and physiology. To become certified, students must pass exams in all the modules.
The program, which is 49 three-hour sessions that should take approximately 24 weeks to complete, is currently available in English and Spanish and Garza de Yta is working on Portuguese and French, too.
